IGNOU Percentage Calculator 2023

IGNOU percentage Calculator online

Once the student has participated in all examinations and accessed their complete IGNOU Grade Card or Result online from the University, they can proceed with calculating their percentage using the method or formula that we have explained below. Our provided instructions and guidelines will assist in determining the precise percentage attained in their examinations.

The IGNOU percentage is determined by considering the marks obtained in Assignments and the Theory marks acquired in the Term End Exam. This method is generally applicable to most of the courses offered by IGNOU.

How to calculate IGNOU percentage?

The calculation of marks or percentage in IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) involves two components: Assignments and Term End Examination (TEE). Here’s how the marks are calculated:

  1. Assignments: IGNOU assigns a specific weightage to assignments for each subject. Typically, assignments contribute to 30% of the total marks for a subject. The assignment questions are provided on the official website of university, and you need to submit your answers within the specified deadline. The marks obtained in assignments are scaled down to the maximum marks allocated for assignments in that particular subject.

For example, if the maximum marks for assignments in a subject are 100, and you score 80 marks in your assignments, then your scaled marks for assignments would be (80/100) * 30 = 24 marks.

  1. Term End Examination (TEE): The remaining 70% of the marks for a subject are based on the TEE. IGNOU conducts TEEs twice a year, in June and December. The TEE is a written examination that you need to appear for at the designated examination center. The marks obtained in the TEE are scaled down to the maximum marks allocated for the TEE in that particular subject.

For example, if the maximum marks for the TEE in a subject are 100, and you score 70 marks in the TEE, then your scaled marks for the TEE would be (70/100) * 70 = 49 marks.

Once you have the scaled marks for assignments and the TEE, you can calculate the total marks for the subject by adding these two components together.

For example, if your scaled marks for assignments are 24 and your scaled marks for the TEE are 49, then your total marks for the subject would be 24 + 49 = 73 marks.

In the similar way, the students can calculate marks of all subjects and add them to calculate final percentage.

Let’s take example of any student who has 4 taken exam for subjects and the result has been declared in the IGNOU grade card.

CourseAssignment Marks (TMA) Theory Marks (TEE)30% of Assignment Marks (A)70% of Theory Marks (B)Total
(A+B)
ECO-160651845.563.5
ECO-270552138.559.5
ECO-3657519.552.572
ECO-490842758.885.8
Total Marks280.8
Total Percentage70.2

It’s important to note that the weightage given to assignments and the format of the TEE can vary depending on the specific course and program. Therefore, it’s always advisable to refer to the course guide or contact IGNOU authorities for accurate information regarding the marking scheme of a particular subject.

IGNOU Grading System Percentage Calculator

For few programmes, the university does not provide the marks directly in the grade card. Instead, they provide Grades like A, B, C, D, E.

The IGNOU Grade Card for all programmes and courses offered is categorized as follows:

GradePercentangeRemarks
A80% and aboveExcellent
B60% to 79.9%Very Good
C50% to 59.9%Good
D40% to 49.9%Satisfactory
EBelow 40%Unsatisfactory

Students must get at least “D” grade in both assignment and theory to complete any subject/ course. However, the student has to get “C” grade in overall to complete the program in IGNOU.

These grades are assigned based on the percentage range achieved by the students in their respective courses. The grades provide an evaluation of the performance level, with “A” representing excellent performance and “E” indicating unsatisfactory performance.
