IGNOU Launches Master of Arts Jyotish (MAJY) Programme to Make Education More Accessible in Astrology.

A two-year Master of Arts Jyotish (MAJY) programme has been launched by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The university’s School of Humanities will provide the curriculum through an open distance learning style. The instructions will be given in Hindi and Sanskrit.

The program’s goal is to offer students with hands-on experience in Jyotish Gyan. Students who take this program will learn everything about astrology, including Vedanga, a type of astrology.

They will also get a thorough understanding of astrological mathematics, theories, and outcomes in ancient India. The students will receive the program’s study materials, which would also assist them in developing the capacity to be employed in the area.

Candidates must have a bachelor degree or higher degree from an accredited university to be eligible. Students will also get the option to drop out after finishing 40 credits and receive a PG Diploma in Jyotish. The course will be delivered in two sessions: one in July and one in January. In the first year of the curriculum, students will learn Introduction to Indian Astrology, Principles of Astrology and Time, Kundli Formation and Panchang and Muhurta. Astronomy, mathematics, eclipse perception, and other topics are covered in the second year curriculum.

The goal of this curriculum is to offer students some practical experience with various areas of astrology. It was also done to make education in this field more viable and accessible. According to the IGNOU, “the objective of this course is to educate students with the everyday lives of human beings within Indian oriental science, ranging from time knowledge, planetary movement, solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, and events in the universe based on the ideas of Indian sages.”

“Students will be supplied with a comprehensive understanding of astrology through the course content of this programme, in addition to giving special knowledge of the idea of astrological mathematics, theory, and outcomes in ancient India,” it has said.

IGNOU MA Jyotish Fee Structure 2024

The course fees for the Master of Arts (Jyotish) programme is Rs 12,600, payable in two instalments of Rs 6,300 each. The programme has a Rs 200 application fee.

The application period for the January cycle has begun.

Candidates can apply to the university’s admission site for a variety of programmes. The MAJY programme will be available at 57 IGNOU regional centres around the country. Admissions for IGNOU’s January 2024 session have already begun, and interested students can apply for various programmes.
