Objectives of The Programme

Eligibility

The students must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. They must have access to a computer, the Internet, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Word. 

Lateral entry to the second year of the MAJMC programme: Those who have finished the PG Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGJMC) from IGNOU is qualified for lateral entry into the second year of the MAJMC programme. They can only take second-year courses. For students entering through Lateral Entry, the minimum and maximum timeframe of the Programme will be one year and two years, respectively.

Applicants interested in joining through Lateral Entry should register on the online admission portal, select the MAJMC Programme, and proceed with the application process. When filling out qualification information, the option for Lateral Entry will be provided. You must upload a copy of the PGJMC final marks sheet (Grade Card) implying successful completion of the Programme and any other required documents.

Program Duration

The programme lasts two years, but it can be finished in five years due to the system’s flexibility.

Medium of Instruction

Initially, the programme is only available in English. The content will get translated into Hindi, and the program will eventually be available in Hindi.

Programme Fee

Program Execution

The program will be delivered via multiple delivery channels to provide more options to meet the diverse learning needs. Whereas printed Self Learning Materials (SLMs) will be the cornerstone, the learning kit will include multiple media elements such as radio, television, radio counselling and teleconferencing. There will be the use of numerous technological instruments to conduct hands-on training.

Credit System

For its academic programs, IGNOU uses the Credit System. Each credit represents 30 hours of study, which includes various learning activities such as assignments and listening to/watching audio files and videos. As a result, a four-credit course requires 120 hours of study.

Understanding the number of credits for each course provides an idea of the academic endeavour needed to complete a program successfully. The MA (JMC) program includes 64 credits (960 study hours) divided equally among sixteen courses.

Instructional System

This University’s instructional methodology differs from that of traditional universities. The Open University System is more learner-centered, with students taking an active role in the teaching and learning process.

For instruction, the University employs a multi-media approach. This strategy includes the following elements:

Practical Learning

Practical training would be an essential component of the MA (JMC) programme, spread across both years and focusing on skill development. The Programme includes three practical courses and one project course. The practical aspect will be delivered through various technological interventions, including radio, television, teleconferencing, and online platforms. It will be delivered in both synchronous and asynchronous methods with the help of virtual media labs and learning management systems.

You must have computer access, the Internet, and a basic understanding of word processing (for producing word documents and communicating via the Internet for sending and receiving emails, browsing websites, and so on).

You will get notified of the date, time, and subject matter of the practical lesson, which you will be able to complete from the comfort of home or worksite.

You will be required to complete practical assignments (continuous assessment) worth 30% of your grade as per the instructions.

You will be expected for submitting a portfolio of your task at the ending of the session. The evaluation will get done on the practical exam day, also with a viva-voce. You will be required to arrive at the examination centre at the time and date specified beforehand. The combined weightage of the portfolio and viva will be 70%.

Evaluation

The evaluation comprises of two parts:

1. Continuous evaluation via assignments

2. End-of-term examination As a result, all theory course assignments receive 30% weightage, whereas the term-end examination receives 70% weightage. The University uses a grading system for both continuous evaluation and term-end examinations. It is done on a ten-point scale with letter grades as follows:

You must obtain a minimum of a ‘D’ grade in continuous evaluation and the term-end examination of course work. Students who can not pass the term-end examinations in a given year are permitted to retake the term-end examinations in that very same course only within the program’s maximum term.
