The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers admission to Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme in both January and July academic sessions.

It is a three year degree programme which includes the courses worth 96 credits Where each credit is equivalent to 30 study hours which consist of all the learning activities.

Therefore, the students who are pursuing the IGNOU BA programme has to pass out all the courses (96 credits) within the maximum programme duration to make themselves eligible for this bachelor degree.

While pursuing the IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme, the students has to choose the subjects in all three years from three different types of courses which has been mentioned below:

  • Foundation Courses (24 Credits)
  • Elective Courses (56 Credits or 64 Credits)
  • Application Oriented Courses (16 or 8 Credits)

Apart from these courses, the students also need to study an awareness course on environment ‘An Introduction to the Environment’ (NEV1). But there will be no examination conducted for this programme.

  2. good afternoon sir/madam i have already took admission in b.sc. from ignou in 2012 session july but i couldn’t complete the course due to some reasons so i want to change my subjects from b.sc to b.a so can u please guide me that how can i change my course. please suggest me.

      I have already taken admission in bca in this year. But I want to change bca to ba programme . Till I have not got admission card. Can I change the course. And my admission fees can be change into ba course? Plz reply as soon as possible.

    1. To Complete IGNOU BA degree, the students has to pass out 96 credits @ 32 credits per year in a minimum duration of three years and maximum duration of six years respectively.

    I want to do B.A english honours nd in frst year my subject is BSHF101 , FHD02 BEGE101 , BEGE 102 and FEG 02 nd now i dont no what subject code i should take for english honurs in 2nd year .

  5. Hello. I am in the 3rd year of BA english and I want to know if I should write NEV 1 also in the re registration form as the books were not given for the same in the first or second year. I know there are no exams for this subject but could you please tell me when this has to be opted for.
